You can look, but you’ll have trouble finding a finer place than Holden Beach. One of the many beaches in Brunswick County, Holden still manages to remain a contender for the best. Don’t take my word for it though. National Geographic Traveler deemed Holden Beach as one of the TOP Family Beaches in the U.S.
Stretching 8 miles alongside the North Carolina coast, this beach town has families coming back year after year. Visitors and residents agree once you cross the 65ft high bridge from the mainland, you enter a whole new world. Technically considered a barrier island, the city is separated by the Intracoastal Waterway. Perhaps it’s this separation that gives the beach it’s quieter atmosphere.
While only a few minutes away from most activities, there is still much fun to be had at the Beach. From bike trails to Marine Wildlife Education, and of course the restaurants. There are several casual and delectable options right along the intracoastal with a view you just can’t beat. For the more adventurous types, you’ll find several watersport rentals including jet skis, kayaks, and paddle boards.
I’m not sure why you would want to leave, but if you insist on venturing out, Holden Beach is only about an hour drive from the port city of Wilmington and about the same drive time to get to the vacation spot of Myrtle Beach. Whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway, or your dream home, Holden Beach is a place you have to see for yourself.
